A Score, Of A Certain Kind

I love to yard sale.  Love it, love it, love it.  It is the last bastion of free enterprise and I take advantage of it when I can.

Today scored  60+ cd's for $30.  And a day of great music.  Janis, Phoebe, Zepplin, Sinatra, more and more.  I didn't go through every CD--just bought the lot and had only ten duplicates.  Now to download everything to the extra hard drive so there is back up and music everywhere.

Life is good.

I liked this little book that I picked up in Sedona last fall. I have been in disagreement with organized religion for the lack of belief that animals are a part of the kingdom of God. whatever that may be.

This book outlined where the bible has included all of creations of God's as heavenly. It wasn't conclusive (is religion ever) but it was interesting. I have always known I will see my dog, Willy, again. And I will know him by the smell on the top of his sweet head if nothing else. I miss that dog still.

Of all the places in the world I have travelled so far, my favorite is still New York City.  It bridges the past to myself and I never tire of being there.

Maybe it is the familiarity, maybe it is the pride of the people and maybe it is because it is just freakin' awesome.

The title intrigued me and the review in the NY Times was good, so I choose this as the first book to read on my iPad 2. I kept reading this plodding novel because I thought it might be that I didn't have a physical book in my hand. The plot idea and setting were solid--Rome 40 years later, when two HS-college sweethearts meet up again. And that is all that interested me as the beginning for the book because the characters seemed bored with each other, then and now.



The dialogue was stiff and stilted. How could they have been that interested in each other when they were teenagers? They seemed tired and pedantic even then. And all that did was pull forward to the current setting of the novel.



I kept reading because I like the back story of one of the set the parents Rose and Sav, and found the piano teacher interesting but other than that. from start to finish this was not the book for me to spend my time reading.

Already loving this book...yup, I remember these times.

update: OK, finally finished this autobiography. It took me forever to read it as I had to listen to songs, watch YouTube videos and try to capture from audio what Richards wrote about in every chapter.

The book was amazing--I really recommend it if you like the Stones and want to know the truth--and yes, he was that fucked up on drugs that much of the time. His focus on his craft of music--his deep love of the guitar is inspirational. His excuse about his family life a bit hard to take and is inconsistent. I feel for his older kids and it sounds like they may have survived their upbringing.

I wish Richards had had more detail about how the Stones went from being a club band to THE Rolling Stones...he wasn't letting lose with details--it almost was one day they played clubs, the next they were the biggest band in the world. Reading about the musicians that influenced all of them was delicious and gossipy.

The book has changed the way I listen to music, and that is a good thing.

This audible book was 100% enjoyable. Excellent reader, good characters and plot. It is a look in to a American Korean family struggling to assimilate the second generation into all of the American culture. There are several different story lines that intersect and mingle, keeping interest high without overwhelming with too many characters.

Highly recommended--more of a chick lit book but the cultural leaning's broaden it.
