Cuba has been on the bucket list for years. I read recently that cruise ships are going to be allowed beginning February 2016 so now was the time to go. Getting there before McDonald's and the Marriott and every asshole tourist was critical so November was the time.
A. and I flew through Cancun to get to Havana. We were issued a visa without any problems, and made it through customs with no issues either. That was a relief because we had 60 pounds of veterinary and school supplies to donate. We had been gathering for months, and due to A's 30 years in the medical supply business she was able to obtain necessary and appreciated supplies. I procured the school supplies--mostly from thrift shops and we had a huge suitcase filled with only what we were leaving.
Right from the very moment we arrived it was amazing. The CARS. I had read that it was a time stop with the 1950's American cars--followed by 1960 Russian cars. And it just was cool. Cool, cool, cool.
Eight days to go.
