Chef: A Novel by Jaspreet SinghMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
I like reading books that take place in India, I am almost unable to resist them. It helps me be in India when I am in the US.
This book was highly rated, shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writer's Prize for Best Book--and that made it a double pick for me: India and shortlisted.
It is an easy book to read, not overly written but not compelling either. Some of the plot lines were under-developed and left unresolved. I liked the protagonist, and wish I could have felt his bias a bit more. This book had very little cooking in it--which left me wanting for more. I wanted to know about the cooking. I like learning about cooking and like knowing from skilled chefs. Guess I just want to have someone cook for me--even in a novel.
I wont need to read this book again and will take from it some more learnings about Indian food and culture. A good use of my reading time.
