Ingenious India

I have unsuccessfully attempted to get a pair of favorite jeans repaired in the US for months.  The problem has been with the top button--it was sewn on, while the other buttons are riveted buttons--no zipper involved.  The top button has come off too many times and I have sewn it back on, taken it to the tailor and they have repaired it only to pull off with the first wearing  The tailor has always said that they could not put on a rivet button.

I brought the jeans with me to India because I have a belief that India can do anything.  The ingenious approach to life here survives all manner of things.  As my Indian friend says to me "India can do anything  but whether India WILL do anything is the question."

There is a tailor--actually several across the road from the hotel where I stay.  The men sit at old Singer machines all day long and make clothes, hem pants and anything else that is needed.  I brought the jeans across with me, and 30 rupees later (about 70 cents) my jeans were fixed, just the way I wanted.

Problem solved because India could.

Poverty could be solved if India was only willing.
