Beautifully written story.  The characters were intriguing and although the book was set in the South in the 30's many of the themes are still current.  It is hard for me to hold that Carson McCullers was only 23 when she wrote this.  She had a maturity that reached beyond 23 and a youthfulness to capture her younger characters.  The loneliness in a social circle was hard to absorb because it is so true.  I wonder if she was a lonely person and that is what gave her maturity to write this book.  She was only 50 when she died.  I hope her life had some happiness in it.



Highly, highly recommended.

I now have the movie in my Netflix line up.
