It's My Birthday
Today is a big day for birthdays, so let me wish a Happy Birthday to Keith Richards, Steven Spielberg, Christina Agulliara, Brad Pitt, Katie Holmes, and Ray Liotta. And, if they are still paying attention, Betty Grable, Ossie Davis and Ty Cobb. What a day--I wonder what was going on nine months ago that so many creative people were spawned. Including me.
Manhattan is my favorite place on earth--at least so far. I have a lot more places to roam but for now it is the top of the list. I love it here every time I come and even though it is freezing today, it is a good place to be.
My friend K and I are here to do 'girl time' and to celebrate my birthday. My birthday. They are coming too fast and it is a pain in my ass. Thank goodness for Marriott points. A 'free' hotel room and a good friend are the way to be entering this newer year for the older me.
So, because I like to do things new, and things most people don't do I took eight stitches out of my arm today and I did it myself. Since I was a kid, I had read about the tough cowboys or McGyver types taking their own stitches out and thought is was a cool thing to do. Weird, yup. I know.
K was going to take the stitches out for me -- she took the staples out of my head two years ago when we were in Korea. She is a mom, and she can do anything. But I got impatient so I grabbed the scissors and the tweezers I brought with me, cozied up to the bathroom mirror, reached behind me to my upper arm and snipped away. It didn't hurt and was really easy except for the last stitch that I had K take out.
So, that is the way I celebrate my birthday. Unstitching me. And doing it in Manhattan.
