Calgary had all it's charm going for me again on this visit. I landed Tuesday and snow flurries greeted my Texas thought process. It was a shock to be cold again and nice.
Across form the Marriott is the Vertical Theater and this time I took advantage of a brand new play, still in preview: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The seating caps at 120--and it wasn't full so every seat is a great seat. The staging was interesting and the acting surprisingly good. What didn't work for me was the story. Too mundane and uninteresting. Still, the evening was delightful to see live theater.

The next night I saw Rent. Well, I saw half of it. The singing was so off tune I had to leave at half time because my nerves were being grated. Not everyone was off tune and a couple of really fine vocals. The ensemble was always off, and the duets too. Not enjoyable so off I went to my hotel room and early sleep. Still, enjoyable, because I was reminded just how good Broadway is and how fortunate I am to see things in New York.
The weather turned beautiful--the Rockies still snow-capped in the distance. What a beautiful city and I walked 2.5 miles Friday before I left. Best way to see a city is on foot and this did not disappoint with flora and fauna. Not much flora--spring is still a ways off. The best view was an otter in the river streaming down to somewhere new. Life is good.
