A Reading Meme

I like meme's -- they usually take me places I haven't thought about and the creativity can be fun.

Here is the one the I found on Leah's blog.

Turn to page 123 in the book you are reading and share the 6th, 7th and 8th sentences. I am reading a very interesting book: Adventure Divas by Holly Morris.

'We explain to them what sex with a minor means, what it means to a little child. Her childhood is lost, her body gets destroyed, she has no chance of building a life for herself ever again. Many of these men think sex and violence are the same thing, they haven't really understood what it means to have an equal relationship with women.'

At this point in the book, Morris is interviewing Ruchira Gupta, diva in India, a woman who is working to change the life of children and women in the brothels in Mumbai. The courage that it takes to attempt and live that is awe inspiring. Having spent time in Mumbai twice I cannot even begin to understand how Ruchira does her work. It transcends humaness.

This is a good book--better in so many ways than Eat, Pray, Love which I consider too surface and self indulgent for my preferences. And maybe that is just me. I like the reality the Morris brings to her writing and the introduction to the kick ass women she writes about.
