I am walking 40 miles to raise money to fight breast cancer--this is my second time walking. It is a walk of hope, and love, and sadness. I lost one of my closest friends to breast cancer. It just should not have happened and has left a scar in my heart.
This time I am walking in Santa Barbara. People have asked me why I am going from Texas to Santa Barbara--and my answer is 'have you been there?' Not a decision that took a lot of time.
The fundraising is not my favorite part and people have been very generous. Just to get in the game, walkers have to raise $1800. I decided to go for $5000 and may not make it but I am close. The summer has been full of training walks and workouts. I have been blessed with a friend who has gotten out there with me most mornings to walk, even in the Texas hell of heat.
I leave next Tuesday to drive out with a friend who is walking with me. We will walk on September 11-12, then I go on vacation for a week--probably will need the time to recover my creeky old knees. Then the drive back, by myself with lots of time to think. This is a good thing.
