Interesting book, but not consistently interesting. I enjoyed with cultural aspects--the living and learning Hindi and could have done without the bits about the deaf school. That would make an interesting book on its own and only added a layer of unnecessary complication to this book. I never could get a feel for her place in India. Did she love it, hate it, puzzled it or what. India is not a place for vacillation.
